Ishmeet Singh, Star Voice Of India's winner last year, died in a swimming accident in the Maldives on Tuesday morning. He drowned in his hotel's swimming pool.

Reports coming in suggest that 19 year old Ishmeet was in the hotel pool with his friends when the incident occurred. Ishmeet was immediately rushed to the local hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police authorities in Maldives have not yet released an official statement.

As news of Ishmeet's death spread in India, there was a sense of shock. Legendary singer Lata Mangeskar expressed "deep shock." Abhijeet Bhattcharya ,who judged Ishmeet and was his proud supporter in VOI, said it was impossible for him to accept this news. "I don't know how to react, he was like my son. I can't believe that Ishmeet is no more."

Ishmeet Singh was from Ludhiana. He won Voice Of India 2007 by defeating Harshit Saxena.
